How to Register for Our Various Events and Instruction

Chess is an extraordinary sport that offers a wide variety of events, including tournaments, camps, seminars, classes, exhibitions, and social gatherings. However, it has been a challenge to find a single software solution that effectively streamlines all these different types of registrations into one user-friendly system. While we are developing a comprehensive tool, we currently offer three specialized systems to meet your registration needs, all accessible from this page. Consider bookmarking this page to easily return to it. Don’t miss the opportunity to simplify your chess event registrations today!

Registering for Classes or Individual Instruction the first time is a two-part system:

  • One part is selecting a class or lesson structure;

  • The second part is that we will send you a link to set-up your pesonal secure portal.

Our secure Instruction Portal allows you to:

  • Follow your progress,

  • Schedule or reschedule your classes,

  • Be invoiced by us, including any prorations or discounts

  • Make secure payments on your account

  • Communicate with your instructor

Experienced players are accustomed to the dedicated chess registration systems that have been developed over the past few years. However, these systems can be confusing for newer players and their parents.

These registration systems address several common issues:

1. Direct Input: Players or parents enter their information directly, which reduces the likelihood of errors. In contrast, many non-dedicated or paper registration systems require organizers to re-enter information into the Tournament Management Software (TMS), thereby increasing the possibility of error. TMS handles pairings, generates reports during and after the tournament, and produces files to report to US Chess (and potentially FIDE) for ratings. Dedicated systems typically have output in the input format desired by the major TMS systems.

2. Dynamic Fees: The systems can automatically adjust entry fees based on different dates and can securely process online payments. This not only lessens the workload for organizers but also enhances security for everyone involved.

3. Data Verification: Player information entered into the system is partially verified by comparing it against the US Chess database, helping to correct any errors related to names or US Chess IDs.

4. Updated Ratings: Ratings are refreshed from the US Chess database. The final update occurs just before pairings are made and can be integrated within the pairing software.

Reviewing Data Online

Organizers have control over updates such as withdrawals and changes in byes. Some organizers prefer to stay up to date with these changes in real-time, although this can make tracking updates more challenging for them. Others opt to make all changes at once to ensure accuracy. Additionally, players sometimes make multiple changes, and depending on the nature of those changes, it may be simpler to manage them through one approach or the other.

The key point is that you shouldn’t assume your changes will be reflected online. It’s advisable to verify when you arrive at the tournament site.

The Important Dedicated Registration Systems

In the Chicago area, the most widely used registration system is King Registration, developed by Bill Buklis, a US Chess National Tournament Director (TD) and a FIDE International Arbiter.

For most of our tournament events, we currently utilize King Registration.

For smaller events, we may use another system developed in Tennessee, called Reg4Chess.

Another important system is Online Registration for Chess Championships, often employed by the Continental Chess Association, which is also developed in Illinois.

CAMPS

Week-Long Day & Overnight

Our camp registrations are currently handled through the Caveman Chess Store using Shopify. Unfortunately, there is no camp software that effectively caters to chess, and there is also no chess software that works well for camps. As a result, registration for Overnight Camps, in particular, is more challenging.

We are actively exploring other software options and potential solutions, including the possibility of building our own system that can integrate with Shopify.

In the interim Shopify has offered the simplest experience we’ve found, ane our Caveman Chess Store will have the 2026 Camp as a product as soon as details are set. We will also have a direct link below.

CLASSES AND INDIVIDUAL INSTRUCTION

TeachnGo

Class Registration: www.caveches.cc/classes

Instructions: When you click the link, you will see a list of classes along with their schedules and availability. Choose the class that best fits your needs based on the description provided. If you find a class that is either too easy or too difficult, we will assist you in adjusting it to the appropriate level.

There is no need to worry about selecting a class that is on the easier side. It is better to err on the side of caution, as this means we can ensure you have a solid understanding of the fundamentals from that class and quickly transition you to the next level—potentially after just one meeting.

When choosing a class, please ensure it aligns with your schedule. If, during a week, you need to attend at a different time due to a personal conflict, you can go online to Teachngo to reschedule for that week to another available class. It is essential to reschedule online to guarantee that the class will be available and that the instructor will be present.

Once you have chosen a class:
